HOMER (c. 9th-8th Century B.C.)

Homer is the legendary ancient Greek poet traditionally credited as the author of the two great epic poems of Western literature. His works represent the earliest examples of European literature and have profoundly influenced the entire Western literary tradition.

Works in This Volume

  • The Iliad - The epic tale of the Trojan War, focusing on the wrath of Achilles and its devastating consequences. Set during the tenth year of the siege of Troy, it explores themes of honor, glory, mortality, and the human cost of war.

  • The Odyssey - The epic journey of Odysseus as he struggles to return home to Ithaca after the fall of Troy. A story of adventure, perseverance, and homecoming that spans ten years of wandering across the Mediterranean.
